How big is big? How fast is fast?

October 15th, 2009

The big news these days in the world of marketing is that social media is the “next big thing” and it’s growing fast. But how big? How fast?

Enter this simple flash app that I came across recently that provides an active and dynamic representation of just how big and fast the social media world is growing. The general story is that social media, and everything that goes along with it like spending, is growing so fast that it’s now impossible to dismiss the power of it. It’s clear the days of thinking that this is a fad are over and social media is here to stay. For a long, long time.

So how does a company like BzzAgent fit in? Well, the super simple answer is this: we adapt. Notice I didn’t say we change. What BzzAgent is and has been is a powerful and effective tool that has shown it’s viability in the marketing world. Now we just need to move forward so we evolve what we you do to ensure that BzzAgent remains a leader. In the coming weeks we’ll discuss more about what I’m talking about.

Oh and here’s the tool to see how fast social media is growing.

It is so true. I am not sure how anyone could think it was a “fad” as technologically enhanced we are growing to be. People cannot live without it anymore and if they do they are considered “stone-age”. Social Media is clearly the future, and it is time to embrace it. I myself have dived in deeper in the last 3-4 months than I ever thought I would and I have to say -I love it!

I can clearly see this app being true! It would be impossible for BzzAgent to not have the need to “adapt”, plus why shouldn’t they?! There is so much more out there, so many more ways to connect. I think it is great that BzzAgent is mindful enough to see that the need for more options is here! It is wonderful for Agents like myself as well, because it gives us the opportunity to connect with each other in new and interesting ways, and who knows what we might learn?

Keep up the great work, Bzz! Can’t wait to see what is next!

    Hi Felica B.

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

Would love to talk (either here on the Beelog) or via email/chat/facebook (or whatever) with what you, as an Agent, would be interested in seeing us do.

We have some ideas, but would love to hear how you (and any Agent on here) see social media and BzzAgent interacting with each other? For example how would you see yourself performing in a BzzCampaign in this new social media world?

    Hi Jono,

I am glad that you are reaching out to your agents to get their ideas and opinions on how WOM through social media should work.

In my opinion I think anything goes. I myself have a fairly new blog and I enjoy sharing products that I have found and grown to love with the followers and passers-by through my blog. As long as I am clear about being an Agent I think it is a great way to share. There are really so many ways to create just a blurb about our campaigns through Facebook, Twitter, Gather and so many more.

I like being able to share what I find of interest or products and activities I love through the social media apps on BzzScapes and the BzzAgent site. BzzAgent is on the right track and staying in the game, but I also think it would be good to keep the original methods as well. Not everyone likes change and in a way keeping the original reports and participation the same is simpler to some and they may be more likely to submit reports. There are a lot of Agents that don’t participate in the SM world and I am sure they like the way things are.

I myself would like the option of participating through WOM around home and in stores as well as WOM through my SM. After all, you can never really have too many options and ways to share, right? :)

So I guess what I am saying about seeing social media and BzzAgent interacting together would be that BzzAgent definitely needs to evolve and move forward in offering different ways to share WOM and report back to the hive. At the same time I believe it is important to offer all of the original ways as well. I think it would be great to be able to report back by using any comments that I may receive from my blog post about a product that I tried and reviewed or maybe comments I receive from a post on my FB wall, even a Tweet I may have made. Hopefully I would even get follow up comments from others who tried it based on my blog, FB, and tweeting WOM and I could report those as well.

It might be a great idea for BzzAgent to create a Campaign Chat night or Tweet Night about a new product or brand as well. Inviting BzzAgents to participate with the chance to win small prizes and other tweeters can join in and win as well. It will help get the word out(especially with Twitter- the parties are all the rage right now, plus it could be a trending topic- i.e. #SoftsoapSerums) in an easy and inventive new way. Agents can share their honest opinions on products and those who are not Agents could learn about Bzz and the product at the same time. I am always up for a Twitter Party-they are fun! :)

Hopefully I answered your question correctly from my perspective. Feel free to e-mail me if not. Have a great weekend!

I agree with tigpooh1516 100% on what she wrote. I could not have said it better. The only thing I want to ad is I have been using the enternet since 1999 and some stuff are really hard for me to figure out. Some older agents like me prefer the old fashioned way, twitter is so complicated, but facebook is fine. I still prefer to write my reports the old fashioned way,but in the same since Facebook has introduced me to some really cool agents and hooked me up with old friends! Thanks Agent terribleterry_36
